I had no idea what this program was about the first time I heard about it. If you have ever seen one of those vibration machines you stand on at the gym… then you know what my first impression of Turbulence Training was when I heard about it haha. Turns out I was way off.

So what exactly is Turbulence Training then? And is it effective at what it promises to do—melt fat like nobody’s business?

Who Created Turbulence Training?

The creator of this product is named Craig Ballantyne. He got his Master’s of Science in Exercise Physiology at McMaster University. He writes regularly for Men’s Health magazine  and is also a member of the trianing Advisory Board for Oxygen Magazine. On top of that he has contributed to GQ, Maxim, Men’s Fitness and more.

I promise the fact that he is a fellow Canuck and that I also attended McMaster for the first two years (’03-’04) of my undergrad will have no influence on this review.

What I Liked About Turbulence Training

It destroys two huge myths about fat loss that trainers like myself have been railing against for years—that to lose fat you need to do long sessions of slow, boring cardio, and that you need to do high reps/low weight at the gym. He also provides the science to prove it. Huge plus.

The workout program comes with workouts for both beginners and those more experienced around the gym.

This program is very similar to what I provide my own clients. I am a huge, huge fan of interval training. Not only does it melt blubber faster than anything else on the planet, but it also gives you that endorphin rush (also known as “runner’s high”) that leaves you feeling buzzing and amazing after working out.

Craig does these workouts himself. You can follow the workouts that he does himself at his blog. Rarely do you see the creator of a product actually doing the workouts day-to-day, and this lends a ton of credibility to his workout program in my eyes.

What I Didn’t Like About Turbulence Training

My only real complaint about this program was the lack of video for the workout program, which might be a problem for the absolute novice.
